Meet The Team
Ruth Moody
With over 9 years experience in training Ruth is one of the co-founders of Farscape. Her interest in training was sparked by taking part in a Raleigh International expedition to Borneo. She then worked for World Challenge Expeditions, a leading youth development organisation. During this time she sent over 1000 young people on expeditions to the developing world and trained as a facilitator and expedition leader. She personally led 4 expeditions to Morocco, India, Kenya and Peru.
Ruth is passionate about helping people learn from experience and getting them to appreciate that every environment and situation can be a source of inspiration and learning.
Helen Virgin
One of the two Farscape founders, Helen has been working in the training industry for 8 years. A trained facilitator, she has been involved in leading expeditions to Morocco and Ecuador.
Before this she worked as an industrial designer specialising in therapeutic equipment for children with severe disabilities. The difficulties of communicating with these individuals, and with those working within the organisation itself, sparked her interest in training and established her passion for designing programmes which can have profound effects by challenging people’s perceptions and taking them out of their normal comfort zones.
Mac Mackay
A highly qualified facilitator and leader in the training and development arena, Mac works closely with Farscape to ensure that their outdoor programmes are not only challenging but safe.
Mac is an acknowledged expert in the field of risk management and has worked as an investigator for the Joined Training Accident Investigation Team for the past 6 years. He is also a member of the British Safety Council and has achieved the much coveted Union International Association Guide Montagne (UIAGM) certification. He loves working with teams and individuals in dynamic and challenging environments to achieve positive results.
Ken Hames
A well known television presenter and expedition leader, Ken works with Farscape to deliver imaginative and relevant learning experiences. He is passionate about giving ordinary people the opportunity to do extraordinary things.
Ken is one of the very few British Officers to have worn the red beret of the parachute brigade, the green beret of the Royal Marines and the sand beret of the SAS. His military experience includes 8 tours of Northern Ireland, the Falklands War, serving with the SAS in the first Gulf War and a stint as commander of Britain’s anti-terrorist team.
As expedition leader on the BBC 2’s “Beyond Boundaries” series of documentaries he has led teams of people with disabilities across Nicaragua, and as well as into Namibia and Ecuador. He is also one of this country’s leading inspirational speakers and leadership trainers, bringing his wealth of experience in extreme situations to bear upon the high pressure world of business.
