At Farscape we recognise that positive working relationships are key to a successful training programme. As such we have built a team of people; all of whom are experts in their field, to work in partnership with you. Here are some of the people who are in our team.
Ruth Moody
Ruth is the owner and Managing Director of Farscape and has over 10 years experience in training. Ruth specialises in Emotions and Behaviours at Work and has created the people focused, values-based training that Farscape has become known for. She is accredited to deliver the Advanced Emotions and Behaviours at Work psychometric and frequently works with teams and leaders to help them develop their self-awareness in order to build high performance. Her interest in training was sparked by taking part in a Raleigh International expedition to Borneo. She then worked for World Challenge Expeditions, a leading youth development organisation. During this time she sent over 1000 young people on expeditions to the developing world and trained as a facilitator and expedition leader. She personally led 4 expeditions to Morocco, India, Kenya and Peru. Ruth is passionate about helping people learn from experience and creating learning environments which are clearly transferable to the workplace. Justin Featherstone
Justin is an expert on self and motivational leadership. He served for over 18 years as an Army Officer, and was on the training staff of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, where he was principal leadership Staff Officer. As a trainer, Justin is passionate about people having the opportunity to take ownership of their learning and has delivered leadership consultancy to military, public sector and corporate organisations. Justin is accredited to deliver the Strength Deployment Inventory (SDI) communication tool. This is a proven, memorable tool for improving team effectiveness and reducing the costs of conflict. It is a learning model for effectively and accurately understanding the motive behind behaviour, which greatly enhances people's ability to communicate more effectively and handle personal and interpersonal conflict more productively. Justin was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry and leadership in Iraq in 2004. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, an Accredited Practitioner for the Institute for Outdoor Learning, an affiliate of Exeter University's Centre for Leadership Studies and a member of the Alpine Club. He has also led over 20 overseas expeditions to mountains, rainforests and white-water rivers around the globe. Justin regularly delivers motivational speeches to both private and public sector organisations. Justin has great empathy and his wide range of experiences, both in the cutting edge of the military and during his work with blue chip organisations, adds additional value to his training. He is able to draw upon his knowledge in a sophisticated and timely manner to help add impact to people's personal learning journey. Deena Gornick
Deena is an experiential and inspirational leader and coach with over twenty years’ experience of learning and development across all levels of organisations. What began as a passion for presentation skills and inspiring passion for performance grew to an in-depth understanding of the facilitation of assertiveness, team building, leadership and confidence building and she regularly facilitates large and small business groups to drive high performance in these areas. Deena is inspired by her deep belief in the potential of every individual. She is able to design and deliver large-scale corporate events for groups of a thousand as well as developing engaging one-to-one coaching sessions in such issues as presentation skills and assertive communication. Deena is a regular speaker at international speaker events. She believes passionately that learning should be fun and this is corroborated by client feedback. Creating a challenging and safe environment where people are able to take risks and explore their potential, Deena’s warm style is informed by her fifteen years experience as an actor and theatre director. Ken Hames
A well known television presenter and expedition leader, Ken works with Farscape to deliver imaginative and relevant learning experiences. He is passionate about giving ordinary people the opportunity to do extraordinary things. Ken is one of the very few British Officers to have worn the red beret of the parachute brigade, the green beret of the Royal Marines and the sand beret of the SAS. His military experience includes 8 tours of Northern Ireland, the Falklands War, serving with the SAS in the first Gulf War and a stint as commander of Britain's anti-terrorist team.
As expedition leader on BBC 2's "Beyond Boundaries" series of documentaries he has led teams of people with disabilities across Nicaragua as well as into Namibia and Ecuador. He is also one of this country's leading inspirational speakers and leadership trainers, bringing his wealth of experience in extreme situations to bear upon the high pressure world of business. Richard CooksonRichard has more than 13 years' experience as a journalist and trainer. He is producer-director for Channel 4’s critically-acclaimed foreign affairs series Unreported World, and has just won a One World media award for best TV programme in 2010-11. He also contributes to national newspapers, including the Guardian, Independent, Times, Daily Mail and Observer. He has delivered media training for a wide range of national and international organisations including local authorities, NHS Bath & North East Somerset, Oxfam, UNISON, UNICEF, United Nations Development Programme, and the International Federation of Journalists. Richard is passionate about helping people learn how they can communicate more effectively and creating learning environments which are clearly transferable to the workplace. Andrew Bramwell
Andrew is an experienced management development consultant and trainer. He has over 20 years experience in training and he is focused on delivering results. Andrew designs and delivers training that is business focused and strategically driven. He advocates the importance of clarity of vision and team alignment to this vision through discussion based training and action planning. Andrew is passionate about change. He works with teams and individuals in both the corporate and SME sector to help manage change in a positive way. He is committed to working with teams to find practical ways for them to develop and achieve success. A robust and experienced trainer, Andrew inspires confidence and calm. He has the unique ability to engender trust immediately so that people are open and honest about their challenges, aspirations and fears. Andrew spent over 10 years as a Director of one of the UK's leading training companies and combines this experience with his more recent experience as a consultant and freelance trainer to deliver training that really works. |
Catherine Harris
Cath joined Farscape in March 2009 with her past experience being primarily in administration and advertising sales. She arrived with lots of fresh ideas and a passion for business development through marketing and so far, has implemented all of Farscape’s online communications. Cath is recognised for her drive towards growing Farscape and ‘all things online’. To help build on her current skills, she has recently joined the Chartered Institute of Marketing and is currently gaining a qualification in Marketing Communications. As manager of Operations she also plans and prepares course operations and logistics. Through the help of the admin team she ensures that from the point of sale, to the point of delivery, the delegates take part in a truly life changing experience. |
Nicole Bachmann
Nicole Bachmann is an expert coach and facilitator with a strategic business background and a Masters degree in law. Over a longstanding career across the international media and other industries, she has successfully led and inspired a wide range of people in the four different languages which she speaks. Nicole is passionate about people performing at their personal best and facilitates the learning of individuals and groups, as well as training business people in the areas of personal development, business communication and leadership skills. Her preferred tool is the PCSI or Personal Communication Style Inventory, which is used to help individuals to develop their awareness of their own behaviour and thus improve their ability to communicate within the workplace. Nicole is a popular motivational speaker and a lecturer at the University of Essex. She is a Fellow of the Institute for Independent Business, a Founding Member of the International Association of Coaches, and a proactive member of various networking organisations. |
Mac Mackay
A highly qualified facilitator and leader in the training and development arena, Mac works closely with Farscape to ensure that their outdoor programmes are not only challenging but safe. Mac is an acknowledged expert in the field of risk management and has worked as an investigator for the Joined Training Accident Investigation Team for the past 6 years.
He is also a member of the British Safety Council and has achieved the much coveted Union International Association Guide Montagne (UIAGM) certification. He loves working with teams and individuals in dynamic and challenging environments to achieve positive results. |
Mark Soden
Mark Soden is a Performance Coach specialising in leadership, team and individual development. He has a proven track record of delivering leadership programmes to coaches, managers and teams in many Olympic and professional sports as well as senior management in corporate organisations. Previously Mark was a professional rugby player in the Guinness Premiership with Northampton Saints for 7 years. He has since been working extensively in the performance management world. This unique blend of sporting and commercial experience has enabled Mark to deeply understand the challenges and behavioural needs of corporate and elite sporting environments. Mark has been able to effectively transfer the skills learnt from his extensive experience over the years into the personal development and team development needs of the commercial sector. His work has ranged from helping small businesses and teams through to supporting wider cultural changes within large corporations internationally. The parallels between elite sport and business have never been so clear. Sport excels in performance, team development, coaching and winning strategies. Taking these key leadership and team lessons from the highly pressured world of elite sport Mark has significantly helped to evolve the leadership approach and sustainable behavioural change of numerous organisations. Sue Gartland
Sue has extensive experience of classroom teaching and senior leadership in nursery, infant and primary schools. This includes two successful primary headships and a period of secondment, initiated by Birmingham Local Authority, to lead a school in challenging circumstances. During this period of her career Sue had the opportunity to undertake senior leadership roles in one, two and three form entry schools of diverse character, including schools with high levels of deprivation, one where there were a significant number of pupils for whom English was an additional language, and one where attainment on entry was above average and parental aspirations were high. Between 2000 and 2008 Sue was employed by Staffordshire Local Authority as a Primary District Inspector, a role that required her to provide a combination of monitoring, challenge and support to schools in the East Staffs and Tamworth districts of the county. She also became accredited as an OFSTED inspector and carried out inspections as a Primary Team Inspector. In 2006 Sue took over the role as Local Authority lead officer for the Improving School Programme (ISP) and was responsible for co-ordinating and quality assuring a team of ISP consultants and school improvement officers. From 2008 until 2011 Sue continued to provide high quality support for schools as an Education Improvement Professional (EIP). She is experienced in working with schools in categories, vulnerable schools and those causing concern. She also delivered Service Level Agreement (SLA) work on behalf of Staffordshire Local Authority and prides herself on offering good value for money and on meeting the needs of individual schools. Sue is enthusiastic and committed to promoting excellence in education. Her strong interpersonal skills enable her to build effective partnerships with school leaders and their staff teams. She has sound judgements and the ability to make accurate evaluations and is therefore able to support schools in achieving continuous improvement, whatever their context. Sue now works as an Independent Education Consultant. She is CRB checked and fully insured. She works as part of the Farscape team offering focused leadership development and performance coaching to head teachers and school leadership teams, as well as monitoring and support for classroom staff. Emma WebbEmma’s role at Farscape is to assist with all aspects of course administration, coordinating course logistics and liaising between clients, instructors and venues to help deliver unforgettable experiences to all Farscape’s delegates. As Marketing and Operations Administrator Emma’s responsibilities also include maintaining and expanding Farscape’s online presence, through market research and writing content for the company blog and various online profiles. Her role also includes general administration and finance responsibilities as well as acting as a personal assistant to Farscape’s Directors. Emma joined Farscape in August 2011 with a background in sales and administration. She incorporates her extensive experience in liaising with a wide range of clientele into her work. She always aims to provide new ideas and a fresh perspective in developing Farscape’s operations and marketing processes. Emma studied English Literature at Swansea University. She has always had a keen interest in psychology having studied it at A Level and through various modules during her degree. She enjoys being able to develop her understanding of psychology through training and development practice. |
